School Dinners

Children can either have a cooked lunch which is served in our school hall or can bring in their own packed lunch.

The lunchtime is staggered to create a calm and sociable experience for the children.

Year R:  11:30am to 12:30pm
Year 1:  12:00 noon to 1:00pm
Year 2: 12:00 noon to 1:00pm

School Dinners are provided by Dolce and ordered through the SchoolGrid. They work closely with the Healthy Schools Co-ordinators to support the development of whole school food and nutrition policies. Take a look at the current menu below by clicking on the link below. Meals must be pre-ordered by parents through their SchoolGrid account.

The lunches are cooked in the Hollybrook Infant School kitchen and delivered to our school in time for lunch.

Packed Lunches

Shirley Infant School is a Nut Aware School. To help keep all members of our school community safe, please adhere to the following:

All packed lunches and snacks brought into school must not contain nuts or nut products. Within our school community we have several pupils with severe nut allergies, including anaphylaxis, and even small traces of nuts on hands, packaging, or shared surfaces can trigger a serious reaction.

To help keep every child safe, please check all items carefully before placing them in your child’s lunch box.

Below is a list of popular UK snacks and lunch items that commonly contain nuts and therefore must not be included.

Please do not send in:

  • Peanut butter sandwiches, wraps, or crackers
  • Peanut butter–based snacks (e.g., Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Reese’s Pieces)
  • Snickers bars
  • Nature Valley Crunchy Peanut Butter bars
  • KP Peanut snacks (e.g., Dry Roasted Peanuts, Salted Peanuts)
  • Granola or cereal bars containing nuts
  • Some flapjacks with nut ingredients (please check labels)
  • Chocolate spreads

Please note this list is not exhaustive, so we ask that you continue to check ingredient labels carefully.

Thank you for your support in keeping our school environment safe for all children.

As part of our Gold High 5 Award we encourage our children to eat healthy foods. ''The vision of the Southampton High 5 Award is to create a healthier and more active learning environment for children and young people. It aims to improve the wellbeing of all school pupils through a combination of physical activity, access to water, healthy meals, mindfulness, and nurturing nature. The award encourages schools to embed health and wellbeing activities and learning into everyday school life, promoting prevention and early intervention. The initiative is part of a broader program supported by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Southampton City Council, which has since awarded over 100 Healthy High Five certificates. The award's success is a testament to the commitment of schools to support children's health and wellbeing in a meaningful and lasting way''.

Please take some time to have a read of our Healthy Lunchbox Policy on our policies page and if you have any ideas or suggestions then please get in touch.
